Never one to buckle down to the real graft of painting lots of tiny infantrymen I progressed further by trying to paint a few small men on a few tiny bases.

Using the test base as a reference, my command units were first up. These would be likely to get fielded in every game I play as each command leads a formation comprised of combined infantry, support units and vehicles, as decided by the player before the game. No matter what I decided to field in the formations, those little command bases would always be getting onto the field…

They ended up looking quite fancy as the brightness of the bases makes up for the basic and fairly drab uniforms that the men were painted in. (Bright seems quite apt as they are likely to be wandering the Italian countryside in summertime)

So as to give the commanders something to command the next batch to leave the painting table were some 120mm Mortars and MG teams. Always wise to be able to suppress the enemy. With a few Marders, a Pz IV and a couple of Stugs, it almost feels like the start of a combined arms force. If only there were a few more infantry…
Very nice Mr S. 🙂 The combination of figures and vehicles on the grass bases looks really good!

The detail on the bases is the only thing that I can see when I’m playing, so I could have gotten away with plain grey germans and saved myself all that time 🙂
