July 2021… I did manage to paint some stuff this month. One of the two mammoths got the usual Free Folk paint job. Contrast paints and metals mainly. A pleasure to paint, although by not removing him from the base, I did have a bit of bother getting to his belly and under the legs…

Not sure what colour Mammoth fur is meant to be. I haven’t seen one around these parts lately. The second one will get a different, lighter, fur colour but I will keep the range of colours used for the leather pouches and straps the same so as to let them stay ‘matched’.
Looks great! I’ve always imagined mammoths looking dark brown like that, although I’m reliably informed that a lot of them were ginger. Not quite sure how that would look on a miniature mind you…

Better than I had hoped and mostly more luck than judgement again :-).

That’s come on very nicely indeed, I like the transition and progress across the photos.
I’ve always imagined mammoths as dark brown too, but I’m sure that they really were all sorts of colours. In games where we accept that magic etc exists I’ve stopped worrying about realism too much!

Agree completely. My toys, my world, my colours… However, lets not let ourselves get too carried away, I have seen this one done in bright ‘care bear’ pinks… That was a touch too far for me even!

That is really nice! 🙂 The relieved portions in the side of the base to make it easier to pick up are are a good idea, particularly for a model of this size! And I wholeheartedly approve of you Challenger 2 mug! 🙂

Those depressions are even more useful when trying to pick up 12 men on one stand and your aim is not to scatter them over the table when your thumb slides off the side…
A great mug collection maketh a man!
