With the first force nailed down it was time to get cracking on tarting up the old figures (some with a dated 10-20 year old paintjob).
First up some old Essex Miniatures mounted knights. Some were finished but sorely in need of some new lances and an ink wash to dull them down.
Others were requiring the full works. Completely painting them as all they had was an undercoat, probably applied in the very early 2000s.
With the figures done it was time to nail down a basing regime or recipe… I have a second set of mounted knights that are Perry plastics. The basing on these looks ok to me and, as it only consisted of gluing on a mud brown flock and some static grass, shouldn’t take too long. When looking at the other hundred or so figures that need doing that’s probably a good thing.
I remember those knights from many battles over the years Across the centuries

Yeah, they are being dragged out for service after almost 10 years of neglect…
